School Adjustment Counselor (2026-2027)

The L.D. Batchelder Elementary School is seeking a School Adjustment Counselor to join our team starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The position of Elementary School Adjustment Counselor is designed to provide services to students in grades K-5. North Reading Public School Educators first contractual day is September 1, 2026. New educators are required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.

Essential duties

• Design and facilitate interventions and whole class lessons for all students focused on various social emotional learning topics as part of Tier 1 instruction
• Lead group therapy sessions as needed on topics such as self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship building skills, and responsible decision making
• Work collaboratively and consult with related service providers, special education, and general education teachers, as well as the School Administration to develop appropriate responses for team members to respond to crises as needed
• Develop professional development activities for staff as appropriate related to various social emotional learning topics
• Consult with school personnel including IEP and 504 Teams in understanding complex mental health profiles as needed
• Assist building based staff in developing a network of support services with community agencies as appropriate
• Serve as a member of the building''s Mental Health Team, Student Assistance Team, and/or Crisis Response Team as appropriate
• Attend CIT meetings regularly
• Other duties as assigned by the School Principal or Designee

Requirements

• Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor or School Psychologist, all grade levels
• Master''s degree preferred
• Ability to provide whole class lessons for students as well as professional development for staff
• Effective history of analyzing data to develop targeted intervention
• Experience with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations that govern public schools
• Related experience as a School Adjustment Counselor preferred
• Citizenship, residency or work visa
