The Smith College of Engineering and Technology (SCET) at Utah Valley University invites applications for the IT Director position, with an anticipated start date of approximately August 15.
SCET is one of Utah Valley Universitys largest and fastest-growing academic colleges, serving more than 6,000 students and employing over 160 full-time faculty across 11 academic departments: Applied Engineering & Transportation Technologies, Architecture and Engineering Design, Aviation Science, Computer Science, Construction Technologies, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Information Systems & Technology, Mechanical & Civil Engineering, and Technology Management & Mechatronics. The college offers a broad range of associate, bachelors, and masters degree programs that prepare students for careers in engineering, computing, applied technologies, aviation, design, digital media, and culinary arts.

The successful candidate will work closely with college leadership, faculty, staff, and university partners to support innovation in teaching, learning, research, and student success, while guiding the colleges long-term technology vision.

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelors degree in a field related to the position and three years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a masters degree in a field related to the position and five years of related work experience.

Knowledge of information technology infrastructure, systems administration, networking, cloud computing, virtualization, cybersecurity, and endpoint management.
Knowledge of instructional computing environments and technologies that support teaching, research, and administrative operations.
Knowledge of IT governance and service management principles, technology planning, budgeting, procurement, software licensing, vendor management, and technology lifecycle management.
Knowledge of applicable university technology policies, standards, security practices, and regulatory requirements.

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948; in the 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University’s facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
