Overview

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (F3900 2026-25577):

Bowhead seeks a Senior Engineering Technician to join our team in supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division.The Engineering Technician will perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed and will select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from Supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

This position requires up to 50% travel.

  • Construct components, sub-units, or simple models or adapts standard equipment, may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.

  • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment.

  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.

  • Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.

  • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts

  • Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electronics with a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience.
  • Must be qualified in submarines ("SS") with service experience aboard U.S. Navy VIRGINIA-class submarines (SSN-774 through SSN-800).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience operating, maintaining, or supporting systems on VIRGINIA-class submarines is required.
  • Prior service as an Electrician’s Mate Nuclear (EMN) is strongly preferred due to direct experience with submarine electrical power generation, distribution, and related electrical systems.
  • Candidates with experience as an Electronics Technician Nuclear (ETN) or Machinist’s Mate Nuclear (MMN) will also be considered and should possess relevant familiarity with submarine electrical systems and operations.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the secret level. Applicants who currently hold a secret clearance are encourage to apply.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
