Experience
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating metal-cutting saws or similar manufacturing equipment preferred.
Experience in a metal fabrication, steel service center, machining, or manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
Ability to read blueprints and production drawings.
Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
Ability to accurately read a tape measure and understand fractions and decimals.
Experience using precision measuring instruments
Saw Operation
Set up, adjust, and operate horizontal and vertical band saws, cold saws, and other metal-cutting equipment.
Select appropriate blades, cutting speeds, and feed rates based on material type and thickness.
Monitor equipment during operation to ensure accurate cuts and optimal performance.
Blueprint & Work Order Interpretation
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, and cut lists.
Verify material specifications, dimensions, and tolerances before processing.
Measure and mark metal stock to ensure precise cuts.
Quality Control
Inspect cut materials for accuracy, squareness, and surface quality.
Utilize tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to verify dimensions.
Identify and report defects, material inconsistencies, or equipment issues.
Material Handling
Safely load and unload metal stock using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment as required.
Organize and stage materials for production.
Separate and dispose of scrap metal according to company procedures.
Equipment Maintenance
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on saw equipment.
Replace worn blades and maintain proper blade tension and alignment.
Keep workstations clean and maintain a safe work environment.
Metal Saw Operator
The Metal Saw Operator is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating industrial metal-cutting saws to accurately cut steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other metal materials according to customer specifications and production requirements.
