SAP FICO Specialist (Lead)

Location: Wilmington, DE

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP FICO Specialist (Lead) to own, govern, and continuously improve our global SAP Finance and Controlling landscape. This role combines hands-on SAP FICO configuration with strategic leadership, solution architecture, team leadership, and finance transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring deep SAP S/4HANA FICO expertise, global implementation experience, strong stakeholder management skills, and a passion for leveraging emerging technologies such as AI to improve financial operations and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

SAP FICO Leadership & Governance

  • Own and govern the global SAP FICO template, ensuring design integrity, regional consistency, and controlled localization.

  • Define and drive the SAP FICO roadmap, including S/4HANA enhancements, simplification initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for SAP FICO initiatives from requirements gathering through deployment and support.

  • Provide strategic guidance to finance and business stakeholders on SAP best practices.

Hands-On SAP Configuration (Approximately 50% of Role)

  • Configure and support SAP FICO modules including:

    • General Ledger (GL/New GL)

    • Accounts Payable (AP)

    • Accounts Receivable (AR)

    • Fixed Assets

    • Cost Center & Profit Center Accounting

    • Internal Orders

    • Product Costing (CO-PC)

    • Profitability Analysis (COPA)

    • Banking & Treasury

  • Troubleshoot complex functional issues and implement scalable solutions.

Program Delivery & AMS Leadership

  • Lead SAP FICO workstreams for implementations, upgrades, rollouts, and transformation programs.

  • Oversee Application Management Services (AMS), including SLA management, incident resolution, change management, and continuous service improvement.

  • Partner with PMO, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Review and guide FRICE development activities with technical teams.

Integration & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with internal application teams to support integrations between SAP FICO and third-party enterprise systems.

  • Ensure effective integration with SAP MM, SD, PP, and PM modules.

  • Collaborate with finance, shared services, and IT teams to optimize business processes.

Financial Close & Process Improvement

  • Support month-end and year-end close activities and coordinate system readiness with AMS teams.

  • Lead regular collaboration sessions with AP, AR, GL, and Costing stakeholders.

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve financial close efficiency and reporting accuracy.

  • Present process improvement initiatives and business cases to leadership.

Innovation & AI Enablement

  • Drive the adoption of AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Cortex, and related tools within Finance and Controlling processes.

  • Deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, cost reduction, and business performance through automation and innovation.

Qualifications

Required

  • 9+ years of SAP FICO functional experience.

  • 3+ years of leadership, management, or team lead experience.

  • Deep hands-on SAP FICO configuration expertise.

  • Minimum of three full-cycle SAP implementations within multinational organizations.

  • Experience developing global SAP templates and supporting multi-country deployments.

  • Strong AMS operational experience, including SLA, incident, problem, and change management.

  • Proven integration experience with SAP MM, SD, PP, and PM.

  • Experience managing globally distributed teams.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • SAP S/4HANA Certification.

  • Experience with finance transformation and S/4HANA migration programs.

  • Treasury and Banking solution experience.

  • Experience applying AI and automation technologies within ERP and finance environments.
