Job Title: SAP BASIS Specialist

Location: Remote (Sacramento, CA)
Duration: 7 Months


Project Overview

A large enterprise organization is seeking an experienced SAP BASIS Specialist to provide technical and architectural support for a complex SAP ecosystem. The role involves managing both cloud and on-premise SAP environments and ensuring system stability, scalability, and performance.

The specialist will work closely with internal IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to maintain and enhance enterprise SAP platforms, supporting critical business operations.


Role Overview

The SAP BASIS Specialist will be responsible for the administration, configuration, maintenance, and support of a wide range of SAP systems. This includes system installations, upgrades, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across multiple SAP platforms.

The role requires strong expertise in SAP BASIS across both ABAP and Java stacks, as well as experience with modern SAP cloud technologies.


Key Responsibilities

SAP Administration & Support

  • Lead SAP BASIS administration for enterprise SAP systems
  • Provide 24/7 on-call and after-hours support as required
  • Monitor system performance and ensure high availability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues as the primary point of contact

System Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform installations, upgrades, patches, backups, and restorations
  • Manage system refreshes, migrations, and client copies
  • Conduct patch testing in non-production environments prior to deployment
  • Configure SAP systems in alignment with enterprise standards

Technical Operations

  • Perform OS, database, and application-level patching
  • Manage batch jobs, scripts, and background processes
  • Conduct system sizing and capacity planning
  • Maintain system documentation, procedures, and inventories

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work with cross-functional IT teams (security, network, development)
  • Act as liaison with SAP vendors for support, licensing, and issue resolution
  • Provide updates to leadership on system health, issues, and progress
  • Support business users and provide technical guidance when needed

Security & Compliance

  • Manage user roles and access controls
  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs)

Automation & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to automate administrative tasks
  • Improve operational efficiency through scripting and tooling

Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of SAP BASIS administration experience (ABAP & Java stacks)
  • Experience supporting SAP cloud implementations and/or upgrades, including:
    • S/4HANA migration (Selective Data Transition)
    • SAP RISE / S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition
  • Experience supporting SAP environments deployed on Microsoft Azure
  • Ability to provide on-call support (including nights/weekends)

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of enterprise SAP system administration experience
  • Experience with:
    • SAP and non-SAP enterprise systems (installation, configuration, patching)
    • System design, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting
    • Operating systems: UNIX, Linux, Windows, AIX
  • Hands-on experience with SAP solutions including:
    • ECC6, S/4HANA, BW, CRM, BOBJ, PO, BPC
    • SAP HANA, SAP BTP, SuccessFactors
    • SAP Cloud Connector, Fiori/Gateway
    • SAP SAC, Datasphere, Solution Manager
  • At least 1 year of experience with:
    • SAP BTP, Integration Suite, Cloud ALM
    • Joule, DP Agent, Business Data Cloud
    • SAP Analytics Cloud, Datasphere, Signavio
    • SAP Cloud Identity Services

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP certifications relevant to BASIS or cloud platforms
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field
  • Experience with SAP cloud ecosystems and hyperscalers
  • Knowledge of system refresh tools (e.g., LAMA, SAP PCA Add-on)
  • Experience with NetWeaver Java Stack administration
  • Experience with SAP transport and change management (CTS+)
  • Experience in DB2/AIX and RHEL environments
