Job Title: Sanitation Driver

Job Summary

The Sanitation Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of sanitation vehicles to collect, transport, and dispose of waste and recyclable materials. This role ensures cleanliness of assigned routes while adhering to safety regulations, company policies, and local environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate sanitation vehicles (e.g., garbage trucks, recycling trucks) safely and efficiently

  • Collect residential, commercial, and/or industrial waste along assigned routes

  • Load, unload, and transport waste to designated disposal or recycling facilities

  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues

  • Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and environmental regulations

  • Maintain accurate route logs and service records

  • Communicate professionally with supervisors and the public

  • Assist sanitation helpers as needed during collections

  • Respond to spills, obstructions, or route issues promptly

Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (if required)

  • Clean driving record

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and hydraulic systems

  • Knowledge of local streets and traffic patterns preferred

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull heavy containers (up to 50–75 lbs, depending on role)

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, early morning or rotating shifts

  • Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required

Work Environment

  • Outdoor work with exposure to weather, noise, odors, and traffic

  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials with proper protective equipment provided
