Job Title: Sample Coordinator

Job Description

The Sample Coordinator performs a wide range of sample and standard handling activities that support daily laboratory operations. This role follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responds to requests from laboratory staff with minimal supervision, and helps maintain proper sample handling practices to ensure compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to compliance and regulatory processes within a professional life sciences environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, label, and inventory samples and standards in accordance with established SOPs and quality requirements.
  • Transport and track samples and standards throughout the laboratory process to ensure accurate chain of custody and timely processing.
  • Support sample check-in and check-out activities, maintaining clear and accurate documentation at each step.
  • Coordinate sample and standard storage, ensuring materials are placed in appropriate conditions and locations.
  • Assist with the return, transfer, and disposal of laboratory materials in alignment with regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Communicate sample and standard status updates to laboratory personnel in a clear and timely manner.
  • Provide guidance to laboratory staff regarding sample handling procedures, requirements, and best practices.
  • Complete deviation reports and support investigations when sample handling issues arise.
  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to sample management and laboratory materials.
  • Review laboratory requests to confirm they comply with applicable SOPs and quality documentation requirements.
  • Participate in training related to SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and sample storage requirements to maintain current knowledge.
  • Respond to environmental monitoring alarms and participate in on-call support rotations as needed.
  • Perform all work accurately, safely, and within established timelines, adhering to laboratory quality and safety standards.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory, sample management, inventory control, or regulated environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with sample preparation, sample receiving, and overall sample management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality documentation.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and workflows.
  • Ability to accurately log, label, track, and document samples and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while responding to requests from laboratory staff.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, vocational training, or related education in a scientific or technical field is preferred.
  • Experience or coursework in chemistry or biology is beneficial.
  • Experience in a regulated environment with exposure to compliance and regulatory processes is preferred.
  • Sample management experience, including inventory control and material tracking.
  • Comfort working with quality systems, deviation reports, and CAPA processes.
  • Flexibility with education and experience, with a focus on strong sample management capabilities.

Work Environment

This role supports laboratory operations in a regulated life sciences environment and involves regular handling, storing, transporting, and tracking of laboratory samples and materials. Work is performed in a professional laboratory setting that follows established quality and safety procedures, including adherence to SOPs and regulatory guidelines. The position may require responding to environmental monitoring alarms and participating in on-call support rotations. Team members should be comfortable working around laboratory equipment and materials, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and following all safety protocols and protective measures appropriate for a laboratory environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.30 - $18.30/hr.
