West Sound Workforce is assisting Port Townsend Paper Corporation in hiring temporary Safety Watch Attendants for its annual maintenance closure in Port Townsend, WA. This well-established company, with more than 90 years of continuous operation, is a safety-focused leader in producing environmentally responsible Kraft pulp products.
As a Safety Watch Attendant, you will play an important role in protecting skilled tradespeople working throughout the maintenance shutdown. This position is responsible for monitoring designated work areas, controlling access to confined spaces, documenting activity, and communicating safety concerns when they arise. This is a short-term opportunity offering 10–12 hour shifts, overtime potential, and paid safety training. While the work is not physically demanding, it requires individuals who can remain attentive, focused, and dependable throughout their shift.
Shift information:
Temporary project during annual maintenance closure
10–12 hour shifts
Day and overnight shifts
Overtime available after 40 hours worked per week
What you will do:
Monitor confined spaces and controlled work areas, ensuring only authorized personnel enter and exit
Maintain accurate documentation, including entry and exit logs, air monitoring results, and other required safety records
Observe conditions around assigned work areas and remain alert for potential hazards or emergency situations
Report hazards, unsafe conditions, injuries, or emergencies immediately to designated supervisors or safety personnel
Support compliance with OSHA regulations and Port Townsend Paper safety procedures
Remain present and engaged at assigned monitoring locations throughout the shift
