Safety Systems Coordinator
Under the direction of the Divisional Director of Information Technology, the Safety Systems Coordinator series administers, maintains, monitors, inspects, and improves BREC's physical security, safety, and emergency response technology systems. The position series coordinates agency-wide video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, fire alarm systems, fire panels, smoke detection systems, AED program administration, emergency communications, gate systems, license plate recognition platforms, and related safety technologies. The Safety Systems Coordinator provides technical support, vendor coordination, system administration, compliance support, training, and operational readiness for all Safety Systems. Tier placement reflects the level of independence, issue resolution, subject-matter support, project scope, and operational responsibility assigned to the position.
Requirements and Job Specifications
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited two-year college, technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Area of Study (major) Required: Information Technology, Industrial Technology, Electronics, Safety Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Facilities Management, or closely related field. Preferred: Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Physical Security Systems, Public Safety Technology, or related discipline. Certification(s) Required: N/A Preferred: Access Control Certification; Video Surveillance Certification; Alarm.com Certification; UniFi Protect Certification; Flock Safety Certification; Fire Alarm or NICET-related training; OSHA Safety Certification; First Aid / CPR / AED Certification; Certified Playground Safety Inspector; CompTIA Network+; CompTIA Security+. License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license Years of Relevant Work Experience Required: Tier I: Two (2) years of related experience. Tier II: Three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience. Tier III: Five (5) years of directly related experience with advanced coordination, system administration, project coordination, or vendor oversight. Preferred: Tier I: Three (3) years preferred. Tier II: Five (5) years preferred. Tier III: Seven (7) or more years preferred with complex safety, security, emergency communication, or building technology systems. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of physical security systems, CCTV and video surveillance platforms, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, fire alarm systems, fire alarm control panels, smoke detection systems, emergency communication systems, AED programs, license plate recognition systems, IP-based security devices, and related safety equipment.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, safety inspection practices, vendor management, contract coordination, incident documentation, compliance records, and operational reporting.
- Skill in technical troubleshooting, system administration, contractor coordination, training and instruction, project management, documentation, reporting, customer service, and emergency response support.
- Ability to analyze technical and operational issues, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, prepare reports and recommendations, maintain detailed records and inventories, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with internal departments, external agencies, contractors, vendors, law enforcement, fire services, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to learn and apply BREC policies and procedures and support emergency operations and incident response activities.
Functions and Duties
Essential Functions and Duties:
Tier Application: The essential functions apply to all tiers. Tier I provides routine coordination and documentation support. Tier II independently coordinates maintenance, inspections, vendor work, incident documentation, and user support. Tier III provides advanced coordination and subject-matter support for complex systems, integrations, projects, lifecycle planning, partnerships, and emergency incidents.
- Administer and maintain BREC's video surveillance platforms, including UniFi Protect, network video recorders, camera infrastructure, system health monitoring, camera deployments, relocations, upgrades, evidence retrieval, and authorized camera-sharing initiatives.
- Administer access control and intrusion detection systems, including Alarm.com access control, door schedules, credentials, permissions, gate control systems, remote access technologies, intrusion alarms, security alerts, and related installation and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate maintenance, testing, inspection, documentation, and compliance support for fire alarm systems, fire alarm control panels, smoke detection systems, and related safety infrastructure.
- Administer the agency AED program, including inventory management, inspection schedules, maintenance cycles, battery and pad replacement tracking, vendor service coordination, and compliance records.
- Support emergency communications technologies, including panic alarm systems, emergency call boxes, emergency communication devices, mass notification systems, and operational readiness testing.
- Administer and support Flock Safety license plate recognition systems, including deployment coordination, maintenance activities, system health monitoring, performance review, and authorized law enforcement partnerships.
- Conduct security and safety inspections, identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, coordinate remediation efforts, and maintain inspection and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate work performed by security, fire alarm, surveillance, electrical, and safety contractors; track contractor performance; assist with procurement and project implementation; and maintain service histories and maintenance records.
- Support integration of security systems with the Rapid Response Operations Center, assist with alert management workflows, support emergency incidents and special events, and provide technical support during major incidents.
- Maintain system inventories and asset records; develop documentation and standard operating procedures; prepare reports and presentations; assist with budgeting and lifecycle planning; and perform other duties as assigned.

- Security systems: video surveillance systems, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, panic alarm systems, mobile surveillance trailers, security intercom systems, license plate recognition systems, security analytics platforms, and RTCC / Fusus integrations.
- Life safety systems: fire alarm systems, fire alarm control panels, smoke detection systems, heat detection systems, AED program, emergency call boxes, blue light emergency phones, emergency notification systems, mass notification systems, and emergency communications equipment.

Supplemental Information
Hours Worked: Full-time position. Generally, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; lunch break daily; overtime as required. Some evening, weekend, and emergency response work required.
