Purpose
The Safety Specialist plays a key role in supporting and promoting a culture of safety across multiple locations, including the regional office and various plant sites. This position provides hands-on safety support through activities such as audits, incident investigations, training, and safety program implementation. Designed as a career development opportunity, this role includes a clear pathway to transition into a dedicated safety position within a Roseburg plant location. This transition is expected within five (5) years, and willingness to relocate is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site safety support at plant locations lacking dedicated safety staff or during projects requiring additional safety resources
- Assist with monthly facility compliance audits as needed to identify and mitigate hazards
- Ongoing safety support for Transportation and other locations as needed
- Assist with administrative safety functions, including recordkeeping and reporting
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis, conduct if needed
- Assist with developing safety training materials and conduct training sessions as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support safety-related project tasks
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation for internal use and regulatory compliance
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all safety matters
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Promote and model company safety values and expectations
Required Qualifications
- Willingness to obtain a Bachelor's degree (if one is not currently held)
- Ability to work in a variety of environments (indoors, outdoors, heights, inclement weather)
- Willingness to travel periodically to plant sites
- Strong communication skills - written, verbal, and listening
- Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Maintain the highest ethical standards in dealing with confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work with all levels of company personnel
- Understanding of safety regulations, practices, and company safety policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
