Safety Specialist
Our client is a heavy civil site development company managing projects ranging from infrastructure to mining. Our work includes site preparation, reclamation, mass excavation, utilities, and landfill projects across commercial, industrial, municipal, and select mining markets.
The Safety Specialist plays a key role in driving a culture of safety excellence across field operations. This position leads implementation of front-line safety programs, supports compliance with OSHA and MSHA requirements, delivers training, investigates incidents, and partners with project leadership to reduce risk and promote safe, efficient production with a goal of zero harm.
·Develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate safety programs aligned with OSHA/MSHA regulations and industry best practices.
·Coordinate and facilitate employee safety training, onboarding, and ongoing development.
·Inspect jobsites, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
·Support project leaders with risk assessments, incident investigations, and mitigation planning.
·Maintain training records, PPE inventories, and safety documentation.
·Monitor field behavior, identify patterns of high-risk tolerance, and coach teams toward safer practices.
·Conduct health sampling and assist with development of safety policies, plans, and procedures.
·Drive continuous improvement efforts and serve as backup support to the Safety Manager as needed.
·Strong knowledge of OSHA/MSHA regulations, site safety practices, and high-risk work procedures.
·Ability to develop training materials, facilitate training sessions, and communicate effectively with field teams and leadership.
·Strong analytical, problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal skills.
·Proficient in documentation and able to leverage modern technology in the field.
·Valid driver’s license with a clean enough driving record to meet company standards.
·Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening and lift at least 40 lbs.
·Self-directed, flexible, professional, and committed to ethical and respectful conduct.
This role includes regular field work in varying weather conditions and around active construction operations. The Safety Specialist must be comfortable working independently and with teams, managing deadlines, and handling physically demanding tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
