Position Title: Safety & Security Officer

Overview

St. John Fisher University is an independent liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3800 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students each year. We are located in Pittsford, N.Y., seven miles outside of the city of Rochester. The campus is situated on 164 park-like acres-a beautiful setting for a warm, friendly campus community.

Job Responsibilities

Shift assignments are made based on operational needs and subject to change - see Work Hours for hours of operation. The officer would be expected to perform routine security patrols, investigate reported and self-initiated complaints. Investigate and prepare reports on all incidents reported to security, criminal complaints, fire alarms, injuries, accidents, and illnesses. Respond to emergency situations, assist with building evacuation, and provide aid and assistance where needed. Assist with medical needs and call for transportation to medical resources. Other routine duties include but are not limited to on-campus parking and traffic enforcement and control, enforce college regulations, and lock and unlock campus buildings. The officer will also be available to operate all department vehicles, which include campus shuttles and provide security escorts to students, faculty, and staff upon request.

Education and Experience

Education Required: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent experience

Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice

Experience: Prior Law Enforcement experience preferred but not required

Licenses: Must have a valid drivers license with no significant convictions NYS Security License - All officers must possess a valid NYS Security Guard license. If you are not currently licensed as a NYS Security Guard, Fisher will take care of the expenses associated with obtaining your license.

Work Environment

All campus-owned and controlled properties. Patrols, inspections, and investigations require frequent indoor and outdoor routines in all types of weather conditions, foot, vehicle, and stationary patrols required, possible exposure to hazardous materials, severe weather conditions, and physical confrontations with unstable persons and individuals who are violating laws and regulations.

Job Type and Work Hours

This is an entry-level position, full-time. Work Hours: 40 hours during one of the following shifts:

  • Shift A: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Shift B: 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
  • Shift C: 11:00 pm - 7:00 am
  • Shift D: 7:00 pm - 3:00 am
  • Shift E: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm Variables:
  • Required to be available for overtime and shift changes on short notice or may be subject to recall.
  • Operation is 24/7. May be assigned to any shift.

FLSA Non-Exempt Salary Hourly Range: $20.00 per hour

  • Dont have NYS Security Guard license? No problem. Fisher will cover the cost for your license.
  • New hires will be eligible for a $1000 retention bonus after completing 12 months of employment.
