Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:The Specialist, Safety and Security Communications receives requests for assistance via telephone and radio systems. Determines the nature and urgency of calls and initiates personnel response. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone and radio systems.2. Coordinates with appropriate agencies for emergency situations, including on-campus fire and medical calls.3. Processes and evaluates information received, prioritizes calls, and dispatches security personnel as needed or required.4. Monitors security camera systems for multiple campus sites and alerts security personnel to suspicious activity or persons.5. Monitors fire alarm panels and dispatches security or fire department personnel.6. Maintains accurate and detailed records of calls for service, incidents, emergencies, alarm calls and alarm status.7. Conveys appropriate and timely information to responding units to prepare them to handle the situation upon arrival.8. Enters parking permits and parking citations into the parking management system.9. Provides clerical support to the Safety and Security department.10. Responds to information requests to the College community regarding general questions in a timely, efficient, and professional manner. 11. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.2. Active and current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED. If not currently certified, must become certified within 6 months of employment.3 Public Safety Telecommunications Basic training course to be completed within 6 months of employment. 4. Valid Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of employment, with acceptable driving record. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Experience operating radio communications systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and portable radios.2. Experienced switchboard operator, cell center, or dispatcher. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. Ability to utilize technology such as computers, radio systems, telephones, fax machines, fire panel, and other communications equipment.2. Ability to become proficient in directing calls in a timely and efficient manner.3. Ability to maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information.4. Skill in multi-tasking, coordinating simultaneous mental, manual, and visual activities.5. Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other applicable software programs (e.g. security camera and access control) and the ability to become proficient in Teams/Zoom.6. Ability to exercise initiative, prioritize tasks, and use independent judgment within procedural boundaries.7. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.8. Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergencies.9. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.10. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.11. Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:1. Work inside in an office environment.2. Work includes walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items.3. Ability to sit for long periods of time at a telephone and dispatch console.4. Required to drive College vehicles. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Due to the number of personnel reporting directly to this position, and the need for emergency adjustments of work schedules, the following are necessary for this position:a. In-residence telephone service or cell phone.b. Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020.
