Amazon"s Middle Mile Safety team is seeking a Data Analyst to develop and maintain the data tools and query infrastructure that support safety investigations, risk analysis, and compliance operations across North America"s 3P transportation network. This role combines data engineering with operational problem-solving - you"ll write complex SQL across multiple data warehouses, build Python automation to replace manual processes, and develop novel analytical approaches to surface risk patterns across carriers, drivers, and assets. If you thrive on turning ambiguous data problems into repeatable, scalable solutions, this is the role.

Key job responsibilities

  • Write and maintain SQL queries across multiple Redshift clusters to extract, transform, and analyze transportation safety and operations data
  • Build Python automation scripts and tools that standardize recurring data workflows and eliminate manual processes
  • Conduct data-driven investigations using internal systems to verify carrier and driver activity during safety events
  • Extract, clean, and cross-reference data from multiple internal platforms to support compliance and risk functions
  • Develop novel queries and analytical methods to identify emerging risk patterns and operational anomalies
  • Produce structured data outputs and formatted reports for internal stakeholders
  • Maintain and improve dashboards and metrics that support weekly business reviews and team operations

A day in the life

Data Analysts on this team operate with high autonomy. On any given day you might be writing a new query to identify cross-carrier associations, automating an analysis pipeline for an active investigation, or building a tool that maps asset utilization across the network. You work directly with Safety, Legal, Carrier Health, and operational teams - translating their questions into queries and their data into actionable intelligence.

About the team

The Risk Response and Continuous Improvement team supports Middle Mile Safety operations with data, tools, and investigative capabilities. We build mechanisms that scale, hold ourselves to a high bar of accuracy, and operate with minimal oversight across a broad scope. Our work directly informs safety decisions and compliance outcomes across the 3P transportation network.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
