Position Summary:

The School Safety Officer is responsible for providing access control and related safety functions across Lawrence Public Schools. The officer ensures a safe learning and working environment by monitoring entry to school buildings, identifying visitors, and responding appropriately to incidents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Question and identify all persons attempting to enter the school building.
• Determine whether visitors have a lawful purpose on school property.
• Notify proper authorities of any incidents occurring while on duty.
• Prepare written reports on any incidents encountered during duty hours.
• Provide security for assigned property and its occupant
• Uphold all Lawrence Public Schools codes of conduct.
• Perform other job-related assignments as directed by the Director of School Safety

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in high-stress or emergency situations.
• Knowledge of school safety procedures and protocols.
• Ability to observe, document, and report incidents accurately.
• Commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming school environment.
• Proficiency in English; bilingual skills preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, students, and local authorities
• High level of integrity and professionalism.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school diploma required.
• U.S. citizen.
• Successful completion of oral interview and background check
• Proficiency in English; bilingual ability preferred.

Pay Range

• $26.79 - $28.98 Hourly
