Safety Manager

General Description

The Safety Manager is responsible for the Administration of Safety policies and procedures for VINCI Construction USA. This position provides support for field operations.

Key Duties

  • Regulatory

  • Studies, communicates, and works with the operations team to address OSHA, MSHA, ANSI, and NFPA, etc. regulation changes

  • Provides input into Company Policy and Safety Procedure Changes

  • Assists with Audit and Compliance Reviews for Local BUs

  • Safety Action Plan (SAP) Audit Administration

  • Conducts SAP meetings as outlined

  • Shares Company-wide information

  • Audits Safety Paperwork

  • Shares audit information with those involved (through the President), and ensure the audit is filed in SAP Folder and the score is recorded.

  • Site Safety Visit (SSV) Administration

  • Conducts SSV's as outlined, meeting with all Superintendents on the rotation at least 1 time/ month.

  • Corrects findings through problem solving and discussion with the team.

  • Shares findings with those involved (through the President), and ensure the audit is filed in the folder and the score is recorded.

  • Plant Audits

  • Develops and conducts Plant Audits, as outlined

  • Develops and conducts MSHA Audits, as outlined

  • Drug and Alcohol Testing (DOT and Non-DOT)

  • Ensuring employees selected from the consortium complete their random DT

  • Training

  • Develops and conducts Safety Training, or organizes outside vendors for training, when required

  • Ensure Regulatory Training is current and the information is tracked in Kheops

  • Coordinates with local BU for completion

  • Drafts, distributes, and audits Quarterly Refreshers and Safety Alerts

  • Relays exceptions and addresses concerns, when applicable

  • Supports Field Operations

  • Assists with safety concerns, process implementation, and questions

  • Engages employees at all levels of the organization

  • Develops knowledge and continuously improves culture

  • Assists the operations team with investigating incidents as well as developing and implementing best practices to prevent similar incidents

  • Focus Programs

  • Plans and organizes International Safety Day

  • Provides guidance to applicable Safety Improvement Teams and Safety Committees

Qualification Requirements

  • General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education and Experience. This position is not an entry-level job in the Construction Safety Field.
  • An undergraduate degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Manager or comparable role.
  • Knowledge of construction safety/current Federal and OSHA requirements is required.
  • Working field knowledge including: Heavy Highway and Bridge Construction, Crane Operations, Asphalt Plant and Lay down Activities, along with various other grade and utility construction preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and computer database functions.
  • Effective writing and communication skills required.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record required.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional is a plus.
  • Demonstrated performance as a safety professional (professional memberships and/or certifications), ability to converse in basic Spanish, and applicable field experience outside the safety profession will be highly considered.
  • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Safety Supervisor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.
  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Safety Supervisor encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).
  • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.
