Overview:
Property Management Services at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Safety & Health Specialist! This individual performs duties to include providing professional expertise in the operation of Auburn University environmental, safety and health programs to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, national consensus standards and the Auburn University Safety Policy. Areas of specialization: This job may specify responsibilities pertaining to professional competencies necessary for a more focused position specialization. These specializations are in the following areas: 1. Biological Safety. 2. Hazardous Materials. 3. Fire Protection. 4. Indoor Air Quality 5. Occupational Safety.

Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance to all federal and state regulations including OSHA standards as well as University safety policies. Conducts regular safety inspections of residence halls to identify potential hazards. Implements safety and health programs for the Property Management staff including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Bloodborne Pathogens and Fall Protection. Develops and maintains safety protocols and policies for Property Management staff.
- Oversees the development and management of industrial hygiene programs to include analyzing and controlling conditions contributing to occupational hazards and disease and determining safe limits of materials or conditions. Determines proper safety equipment and PPE needed for Property Management staff. Performs and maintains a chemical inventory of all chemicals used by Property Management and regularly update Safety Data Sheet books located in multiple locations
- Develops and delivers occupational safety and health training to all Property Management staff. Coordinates training opportunities delivered by experts in different fields. Trains Resident Assistants on fire prevention and fire extinguisher use.
- Responds to work orders from students and parents with concerns of indoor air quality in residence halls. Identifies areas of microbial growth in residential areas and determine the cause and remediation plan. Responds to water events in buildings and create moisture maps to determine where to open walls and ceilings to expedite drying times. Determines where to arrange fans and dehumidifiers to expedite building drying time and prevent microbial growth. Works with contractors to repair areas that have been damaged by water and microbial growth to ensure area is repaired correctly.
- Works closely with the University Risk Management and Safety department to ensure a unified approach to safety and health across Auburn University. Collaborates with the University Industrial Hygienist on issues affecting Property Management facilities, residents and staff. Participates in cross-departmental groups to enhance campus safety and health training and awareness.
- Maintains up-to-date records of inspections, audits and safety training. Provides updates on safety and health issues to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
- May supervise Safety & Health Tech, but supervision is not the main focus of the job.
Qualifications:
Degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field

- High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree
Level II
- High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience OR
- Master's degree
Level III
- High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience OR
