Title/Role: Safety Director, NYC Division: Safety Location: New York City, NY Reporting to: VP, Risk Management & Compliance
Position Summary: The New York City Safety Director will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture across all divisions. This includes the strategic oversight, development, and implementation of company-wide safety policies, procedures, and programs. This individual will lead the safety team to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations. The person taking on this role must have a strong background in overall safety, including safety planning, documentation, and handling accident investigations, with the ability to set organizational safety strategies and mentor safety professionals.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Direct and oversee the continuous development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and training programs
Provide leadership and guidance to safety managers and field staff to ensure consistent application of safety standards
Conduct and oversee thorough accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring detailed documentation and corrective action plans
Develop and review Safety Work Plans (SWPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across all projects
Collaborate with project management, field supervision, and clients to address safety concerns and implement corrective measures as needed
Perform audits, inspections, and compliance reviews across all project sites, ensuring alignment with OSHA, DOT, DOB, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable regulations
Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, clients, and external safety representatives
Track, analyze, and report companywide safety metrics to executive leadership
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce incidents
Develop companywide training standards; serve as a certified OSHA trainer to deliver required courses
Maintain documentation of safety certifications, training records, and compliance reporting
Qualifications: Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations (Required/Preferred):
C-3 Competent Person – Lead Certification, preferred
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), required
OSHA 500 Trainer Certification, required
Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), preferred
NYC DOB Licensed Safety Manager (LSM), preferred
NFPA 70e Supervisor Training
CPR/First Aid Certification
Extensive MTA NYCT and Port Authority experience, required
MTA NYC Transit Track Safety Certification (Preferred)
HAZWOPER Training
Education & Experience:
Minimum 10+ years of progressive safety management experience in construction, with at least 5 years in a senior or corporate leadership role
Experience leading investigations, writing detailed reports, and developing corrective action plans
Demonstrated success in developing and executing company-wide safety programs
Experience as the head of safety on large-scale infrastructure projects (transit, rail, power, or design-build)
Experience with MTA NYCT, and Port Authority is required

Salary Range: $190k-$225k/year
