PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Safety Coordinator is a champion of the EHS programs at the Joplin Plant. Assignments include administrative duties, developing training programs, promoting prevention tools, and communicating best safety practices in the workplace.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the implementation or management of EHS programs for the plant. If needed, customize corporate and division safety programs for local use.
  • Develop, implement and monitor EHS action plans and programs to ensure a high level of safety awareness within the facility.
  • Maintains and updates EHS information (charts, and graphs) and communicates safety metrics.
  • Maintain all EHS training documentation as required by corporate and federal/state standards.
  • Coordinates necessary EHS audits and inspections as required and ensures follow-up items are completed.
  • Assists in recordable injury, first-aid and near-miss investigations and in the development and implementation of action plans.
  • Acts as a plant liaison with regional and divisional safety leader and outside safety agencies.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections.
  • Ensures housekeeping of office and work areas is maintained.
  • Continuously educates employees on EHS standards, procedures, PPE, etc.
  • Documents all Hazard Identifications, Safe Behavior Observations, facility audits, etc.
  • Performs safety orientations and monthly safety training.
  • Manages the site's SDS's and the MSDS Vault system.
  • Performs other functions as they relate to maintenance of the plant Safety and Environmental Programs as directed by the Plant Leader.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years combined work experience in manufacturing safety

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate sound leadership on the job through safety performance, communication skills and teamwork
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of general OSHA and EPA requirements
  • Comfortable in identification and coaching of unsafe acts or behaviors for both salary and hourly employees
  • Lean (Six Sigma) and SPC (Statistical Process Control) knowledge a plus
  • Basic computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • EHS college courses or EHS certificates
  • 1-2 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Work up to 12 hours in non-climate controlled manufacturing environment
  • Safeguard self and others with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel-toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask), hearing protection and long sleeved shirt and pants as necessary for tasks
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary
