Job Summary:
The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the safety program with a primary focus on driver safety, training, coaching, and compliance. This role ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture across the organization. The Safety & Compliance Manager oversees driver qualification files, training programs, regulatory reporting, and compliance activities to ensure that safety standards are met and exceeded.
This role requires strong knowledge of DOT safety regulations, hands-on experience in driver training and compliance, and the ability to coach drivers and staff in a way that builds trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:- Promote and model the company’s safety strategy, goals, and philosophy.
- Serve as the primary contact for driver safety and compliance issues.
- Communicate regulatory changes and policy updates to staff and leadership.
- Foster a culture of accountability, recognition, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and other applicable regulations.
- Monitor and maintain driver qualification and CDL licensing records.
- Oversee truck registration and related compliance documentation.
- Monitor adherence to safety policies through audits, inspections, and scorecard reviews.
- Maintain accurate safety data and compliance with governmental reporting requirements.
- Investigate safety-related policy violations and partner with management/HR to administer corrective action or discipline when required
- Develop, update, and enforce company safety policies and manuals.
- Verify accuracy of tolls, permits, and licensing processing.
- Track and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and areas of concern.
- Implement corrective actions and proactive initiatives to reduce incidents and improve compliance.
- Oversee and direct the work of the Safety Coordinator and Application Processor.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and coaching skills with drivers and staff.
- Ability to lead and direct others during safety-related situations or emergencies.
- Strong planning, coordination, and record-keeping skills.
- Knowledge of DOT compliance, driver training, and safety systems.
- Experience with safety audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
- Collaborative approach to working across departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, or related field preferred
- Safety related certifications in the transportation industry are preferred.
- Prior experience in driver training and coaching strongly preferred.
