Overview:

The RSH OR Assistant Nurse Manager provides direct support to the Nurse Manager in the planning, organization, and implementation of clinical and operational services within the unit. This role plays an integral part in ensuring high‑quality patient care through effective leadership, collaboration, and adherence to organizational standards.

The Assistant Nurse Manager assists with fiscal oversight, performance improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance while supporting daily unit operations.

 

Responsibilities include active participation in personnel processes such as staff engagement, coaching, and performance management. The role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to assist with timely decision‑making and change management.

 

Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and hospital departments, the Assistant Nurse Manager helps promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. This position also serves as bench strength for the Nurse Manager role, preparing the incumbent for future leadership opportunities through exposure to all aspects of unit management.

Responsibilities:

Clinical and Operational Support

  • Assist the Nurse Manager with unit assessments, staff skill proficiency evaluations, and oversight of equipment and supply management.
  • Support patient satisfaction initiatives by promoting quality care, service excellence, and safety standards.
  • Assist with staffing and scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient unit operations.
  • Support oversight of daily unit operations to maintain workflow and care delivery standards.

Leadership and Personnel Management

  • Assist the Nurse Manager in overseeing the unit and supporting frontline staff.
  • Participate in personnel processes, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Support staff development and engagement to maintain a competent and motivated workforce.

Performance Improvement and Compliance

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Support quality, safety, and risk management initiatives within the unit.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients, physicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary departments and members of the management team to achieve organizational goals and improve care delivery.

Decision-Making and Change Management

  • Assist the Nurse Manager in making timely operational and clinical decisions.
  • Support change management initiatives to improve unit performance and adapt to evolving needs.

Technology and Business Requirements

  • Utilize a personal cell phone for business-related communication as required.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in hospital or acute care setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients and team members.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, team members, and visitors.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic health records.
  • Proficiency in CPR
Credentials:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • PALS certification (within 6 months of hire).
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Magnet Recognition preferred).
  • OR RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program + Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Active pursuit of a Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) if not already possessing a BSN.
Entry: USD $87,048.00/Yr. Max: USD $143,624.00/Yr.
