Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to ensure the Citys right-of-ways are free of obstructions. This is accomplished by trimming and removing trees, shrubs, bushes, and other vegetation growth from right-of-ways to aid in public safety. Other duties include coordinating with other departments and agencies for tree removals, road blocks, and rerouting of traffic, equipment maintenance, and performing other tasks as required.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Examples of Duties
- Drives and operates 60 bucket truck;
- Drives and operates tractor with side arm cutter;
- Drives and operates a road sweeper;
- Drives and operates tractor with backhoe and bucket;
- Operates wood chipper and stump grinder;
- Prunes trees and shrubberies;
- Spray herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals;
- Blows, rakes, and picks up leaves;
- Operates a variety of equipment, power tools, lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, sprayers, and hand saws;
- Performs routine maintenance and replacement of machinery, equipment, and/or vehicles;
- Manually loads and unloads materials from trucks;
- During inclement weather, assist in the clean-up of downed trees and limbs;
- Performs related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED; and
- One to two years of experience in unskilled and semi-skilled grounds and landscaping maintenance work.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.
- State and local laws pertaining to the operation of equipment on highways.
- hazards involved in the operation of construction vehicles and equipment.and safety precautions to be observed in their operation.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid drivers license issued by NC and have an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Must obtain a Pesticide Application License within 12 months of hire.
