TITLE: Roving Campus Security/Trainer

LOCATION: Secondary Schools

REPORTS TO: Director of Safety and Security

Hours / Work Times

3 Days A Week - 7.0 hours a day (includes 30 minute unpaid lunch) - up to 21 total Hours per week

Work times/days/work location will vary.

Traveling from location to location will be required.

Follows regular school calendar

A valid First Aid/CPR card must be submitted to Classified Personnel within 45 days of hire. Only courses with a "hands-on" component taught by a certified instructor are acceptable.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Service Workers Class IV + $1.25 per hour when performing training duties

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the Director of Safety & Security, the position of Roving Campus Security/Trainer provides security support to the educational process by protecting the rights and property of the Evergreen School District and its employees, students, and visitors by enforcing District policies and regulations relating to safety and security. This position will work at all sites as needed based on district needs. This position will fill long-term absence positions as needed, as well as, day to day absences at the direction of the Director of Safety and Security. As directed, this position will work with campus security officers to help with training or retraining as needed. This position will have full understanding of all the systems, procedures, and databases utilized by campus security.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the general public in person, by telephone, via email, and in writing.
  • Support new staff transitioning to Campus Security roles and provide training to those requiring additional coaching.
  • Maintain a proficient skill level of all Campus Security Software applications and District processes.
  • Provide coverage for Campus Security openings as needed under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Patrol school campus, as well as both inside and outside the facility, from one-half hour before to one-half hour after school, or as assigned.
  • Monitor students for hall or lunch passes to insure attendance during school hours.
  • Monitor all non-enrolled visitors and vehicles.
  • Assist administrators in escorting students for disciplinary action.
  • Contribute to the general order of the entire school facility by stopping fights, resolving conflicts, problem solving, exercising careful judgment, using tact and diplomacy in dealing with students, staff, and the general public, and by maintaining professional composure.
  • Work with the community, parents, law enforcement, emergency services, social services, school juvenile services, school district personnel, and all other agencies to maintain cooperative relations.
  • Monitor compliance with the rules and regulations of both the school and the District.
  • Monitor and direct bus, student, and visitor parking and driving, and traffic flagging as required.
  • Monitor proper registration of student vehicles and check parking permits.
  • Conduct preliminary accident and criminal investigations and assist law enforcement as necessary with student related problems.
  • Provide security at athletic and other school events as necessary.
  • Perform First Aid/CPR when necessary.
  • Adequately complete the District''s physical restraint training program and be able to physically perform the maneuvers as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality with district-wide student system access.
  • Travel from location to location to complete tasks, training and provide support.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Computer/Laptop, typewriter, telephone, two-way radio, flashlight, paddle for directing traffic and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous training or experience in security or law enforcement services or social services preferred.
  • Previous experience or training in understanding and working with high school/middle school age students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the physical ability to restrain potentially harmful individuals as well as work outside in all types of weather, be able to monitor a large area, and traffic flagging as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare legible reports/documents and give clear verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to become knowledgeable of the rights of students and legal aspects of the position.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to take training on traffic flagging.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to become knowledgeable of gang member identification, dress and related activities and work with administration to effectively intervene.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to become knowledgeable of the physical signs of student intoxication or drug use and take appropriate action.
  • Must be able to demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity and sensitivity, and willingness to work with school staff to find solutions.
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality in handling security matters.
  • Must possess or must be able to secure First Aid/CPR certification within 45 days of employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate punctuality and dependability and work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to be able to complete the District''s physical restraint training program.
