POSITION: ROOFING TECHNICIAN
DESCRIPTION: Manual work at the journeyman level in the repair, maintenance, and installation of roofs and flashings. The work involves repairing, maintaining, removing existing roof systems, and the installation of new roof systems. Assignments are received through oral instructions prior to and during the job.
DUTIES:
· Assemble materials, tools and equipment needed to complete projects.
· Inspect, probe, and water test leaking roofs to determine source and patch/repair.
· Tear off and dispose of existing roofing materials, metal coping, and downspouts
· Install new roofing materials, including decking, coverboard, insulation, felt, drains, metal coping, gutter, flashing, and roof coverings of shingles, membrane, metal panels or modified bitumen and install utilizing fasteners and adhesives.
· Install metal wall panels, soffit, and fascia.
· Cut and lay out coverboard, insulation, and crickets according to project diagrams and roofing penetrations
· Set up, hoist, secure and take down all materials and equipment
· Set up safety measures on roof including scaffolds, safety railing & lines, hole covers, and anchors
· Housekeeping functions at both shop and job site including cleaning, sweeping, removal of trash and organization of materials and tools.
· Drive company vehicles and operate equipment as needed
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Ability to carry and set up a 40-foot aluminum extension ladder unassisted
· Climb and descend all types of ladders unassisted to rooftop
· Work at heights in excess of 20 feet
· Balance and navigate on flat and sloped roofs.
· Frequently bend over, lifting and moving tools/materials
· Work from all positions; erect, bent over, on hands and knees, and crawling
· Stand and/or kneel for entire work day
· Work outdoors in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and all types of weather.
· Handle and safely work with a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, snips, blade cutters, saws, and hammers in a repetitive hand movement with fine coordination
· Cut, hammer, fasten, mop, hoist and otherwise work with roofing materials
· Complete basic math reasoning and problem solving techniques
· Be at the job site by own means and ready to work at start of day as dictated by your supervisor
· Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with other workers and administration
· Properly wear fall safety equipment including safety harness and line
· Maintain and follow all OSHA and Top Line safety guidelines at all times
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be able to perform all Essential Job Functions with or without reasonable accommodations
· Have a valid drivers license in good standing
· Must be able to pass any pre-access or other required Drug Test
· Provide own basic carpentry hand tools
· Must be able to communicate with the office by cell phone.
· Provide own transportation to shop
