Description

We are currently seeking a Rock Drill Field Mechanic.

The Rock Drill Field Mechanic supports the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and performance optimization of Morgan Corp.’s rock drilling fleet. Specializing in Furukawa, Soosan, and Epiroc drilling equipment, you will serve as the primary field resource responsible for maximizing drill uptime, supporting production operations, and ensuring equipment reliability across multiple job sites.

Working at the intersection of equipment operations, maintenance, and drilling production, you will diagnose complex hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical issues while partnering closely with operators, supervisors, and equipment management personnel. This position requires a highly independent individual who thrives in field environments and takes ownership of equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

Rock Drill Maintenance & Repair
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Furukawa, Soosan, and Epiroc rock drills and associated support equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled service activities.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems.
  • Repair or replace drifter components, feed systems, rotation units, hydraulic pumps, motors, and percussion systems.
  • Perform field repairs to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Conduct post-repair testing and operational verification to ensure equipment performance.
  • Maintain drill rig systems in accordance with OEM specifications and maintenance intervals.
Diagnostic & Technical Support
  • Utilize OEM diagnostic software, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Analyze recurring failures and identify root causes.
  • Support operators and supervisors in identifying operational practices that affect equipment performance.
  • Assist with warranty documentation and OEM support requests.
  • Provide technical recommendations regarding repair versus replacement decisions.
Equipment Reliability & Performance
  • Monitor drill utilization, component life cycles, and maintenance trends.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment availability and reliability.
  • Support implementation of predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist with tracking major component rebuilds and service intervals.
  • Document equipment condition and communicate findings to Equipment Division leadership.
Field Operations Support
  • Travel to project sites to perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and production-critical repairs.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel to prioritize equipment needs.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure service truck inventory, tooling, and parts are properly maintained.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all company safety policies and OEM service procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current with advancements in drilling technology, electronic controls, and diagnostic systems.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts focused on equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experienced mechanic with a strong interest in drilling equipment and specialty construction machinery.
  • Self-motivated individual who enjoys diagnosing complex equipment issues.
  • Comfortable working independently in remote field environments.
  • Takes ownership of equipment uptime and operational success.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail.
  • Field-first mentality focused on supporting production operations.
Who This Role May NOT Be Suitable For:
  • Someone seeking a primarily shop-based mechanic position.
  • Someone uncomfortable with frequent travel to active construction sites.
  • Someone who prefers routine maintenance work over advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Someone seeking a strictly scheduled workday with limited emergency response responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
