Job Description
This position is responsible for supervising the operations and maintenance of the Roads & Streets Department.
Examples of Duties
- Assist in the preparation & management of the annual budget of around $10 Million Dollars.
- Supervises the operations of the Roads & Streets Department.
- Assists in the preparation of the work plans for daily and seasonal operations.
- Thoroughly understand Snow and Ice control measures, including calculating the optimal amount of chemicals to treat the snow and ice, given the variables such as pavement temperature, air temperature, depth of ice, forecasted precipitation and the forecasted temperature.
- Must be proficient in the various techniques in maintaining both asphalt and concrete roadways. This includes the use of various products to optimize the effectiveness while minimizing the costs.
- Coordinates and supervises the work of nearly 40 individuals, optimizing their resources to minimize the costs to the city.
- Must be proficient in the use of various computer software packages to track daily expenses.
- Responds to customer complaints, concerns, and inquires; provides information and assistance and resolves problems.
- Procures various material and supplies needed to safely maintain Bismarck's Roads & Streets.
- Gather date and prepare various reports.
- Trains, assigns schedules and supervises the three crew leads and assists the Superintendent in the discipline and evaluations of various personnel.
- Works with the media portraying a positive message regarding Bismarck's streets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with four to five years' experience with at lease one being in a supervisory role.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL drivers license issued by the State of North Dakota.
