Job Summary

The RN Robotic Coordinator is responsible for daily operations and administrative leadership within the robotic OR. The coordinator has 24 hour responsibility for the overall planning, organization, direction and evaluation of the Robotic Surgery Program(s) including assisting with strategic and operational planning for the robotics program development. Responsible for educating, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of the direct patient care staff in the Robotic OR's. The coordinator is responsible for staff education, coordinating and supporting surgeon robotic education. The coordinator is responsible for facilitating the schedule of robotic surgery patients and surgeons in the OR, provides education for staff working in the Robotic Surgery services, develops competencies for staff in this highly specialized area, and works with surgeons and surgeon's office staff to fill dedicated Robotic Surgery Block Time. The RN Robotic Coordinator demonstrates ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments/areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as leader and of Robotic Surgery Program in the Operating Rooms: Responsible for goal development, strategic planning and evaluation of goal achievement that is in alignment with the Robotic Surgery Sub Committee and CAMC Strategic Plan. Develops short, mid and long term goals with plans to facilitate/guide goal achievement which are consistent with the mission and values of the Medical Center. Revises plans based upon evaluation of progress toward goals. Submits annual report. Facilitates adherence to regulatory compliance standards (accrediting body, ODH etc.) Effectively communicates with patients, visitors, staff, physicians, peers, and other Medical Center personnel. Demonstrates effective communication, problem solving, negotiating, and conflict resolution skills. Promotes teamwork. Serves as a role model, motivates/mentors and inspires staff, and demonstrates flexibility and impartiality when dealing with others. Maintains clinical expertise and professional skills and assists in the operating room. Participates in and assumes leadership role in committees, task forces and special projects related to Robotic Surgery. Demonstrates dependability in meeting target dates for reports and project completion. Independently seeks and participates in appropriate professional development activities. Remains up-to-date in current level of practice. Incorporates evidence based practice in approaches to problem-solving and decision-making. Represents the hospital in professional/civic activities locally, across the state or nationally as requested. Independently seeks and participates in appropriate professional development activities (membership in one specialty organization; evidence of external networking in specialty). Develops curriculum and provides education and training to CAMC OR Staff as well as to outside OR staff for Robotic Team Training. Facilitates surgeon training labs as necessary. Collaborates with key management staff to determine staff learning. Acts as liaison to the Robot manufacturer and field representative, within the institution, and outside institution with lay public and outside health care professionals. Supports program development. Develops, implements, and evaluates programs with emphasis on improvement in outcomes, service, operations and cost.
  • Manages the quality assessment and improvement activities: Participates in development of evidence based standards of practice by data gathering, data management, and ensuring data dissemination. Identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes. Assumes leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to problematic outcomes (patient care and services). Promotes excellence in nursing through collaboration with key personnel to determine learning needs of staff. Supports staff in achieving professional development and opportunities for advancement. Oversees compliance with mandatory requirements. Assures staff education documentation is complete. Contributes to performance improvement of the medical center, the service area and individual patient care teams. Facilitates Nursing Quality Initiatives at the unit level.
  • Manages the daily operations of Robotic Surgery in the OR: Facilitates effective use of time, people, materials and financial resources. Identifies creative cost saving initiatives while maintaining or improving quality of service. Assures staff training & competency related to Robotic Surgery and technology. Adheres to customer service standards and reinforces adherence of unit/area personnel. Anticipates needs of internal and external customers. Assumes responsibility in assisting in the resolution of customer problems.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Experience: 5-7 Years Combined Experience in OR, RNFA, and Robotics Substitution: Associates Degree may substitute for Bachelor's Degree as long as they are in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree Comments: Effective performance of this role at CAMC requires the coordinator demonstrate core competencies in the area of customer focus, teamwork, job knowledge, and resource management. Job knowledge is demonstrated in the performance of primary duties and responsibilities while the remaining competencies address the manner in which the role is performed.
