SUMMARY OF POSITION

The RN inpatient Nurse assesses patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. The inpatient Registered Nurse administers nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. The RN may advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention. The inpatient RN will maintain accurate detailed reports and records and administer medications to patients while monitoring for reactions and side effects. The RN will monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients conditions.

Launching Fall 2026 New Level II NICU

Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center is expanding its Family Birthing Suite with the addition of a new Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in fall 2026. This new unit will expand access to specialized newborn care for families across Lancaster County.

We are seeking experienced NICU Registered Nurses to join the founding nursing team and help launch this new service line. This three-bed unit will provide specialized care for newborns born at 32 weeks or later who require additional monitoring or respiratory support. The Lancaster NICU will work in close collaboration with the neonatology team at Penn State Health Golisano Childrens Hospital in Hershey, home to the regions only Level IV NICU. NICU RNs hired for this role will begin June 1, 2026, and will complete education and orientation at other Penn State Health NICU locations through the summer. Training will then transition to Lancaster Medical Center as the team prepares to open the new unit in fall 2026. Travel required for orientation and training will be reimbursed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
  • One (1) year of RN experience in a NICU setting
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - required prior to the end of the orientation period

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience working in a Level III or IV NICU
  • Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC)
