JOB SUMMARY
Plans and provides professional nursing care to assigned oncology patients. Applies oncology nursing principles through collaborative relationships with patients, and families.
Responsibilities:Plans, implements, and evaluates all professional nursing care given to oncology patients in the out-patient setting. Carries out direct and indirect patient care activities, including physical care, psychological support and patient teaching.
2. On physician's orders or under physician's auspices, administers all types of parenteral chemotherapy to oncology patients in the out-patient setting; prepares parenteral chemotherapy under laminar flow hood as needed to augment pharmacy coverage.
3. Determines and coordinates services needed by oncology patient and family (e.g., social services, financial planning); makes appropriate referral to other hospital departments and or community agencies as needed.
4. Acts as a resource person for all oncology patients and other hospital nursing staff in area concerning, but not exclusive to oncology nursing.
6.* Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
7.* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

OTHER JOB DUTIES
Provides educational information for patients families and significant others as needed.
Enhances professional nursing growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and conferences.
Performs all other oncology nursing related functions, as necessary to facilitate patient care.

Qualifications:BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education:
Registered professional nurse with current NYS licensure required; OCN certification preferred.
IV certification
Experience:
5 years of oncology nursing experience required.
Skills:
Knowledge of oncology nursing practice.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
