Position Overview

UF Health Shands Hospital is seeking an experienced and visionary Nurse Manager to provide leadership for professional nursing practice and patient care delivery. This role is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of nursing operations within an assigned unit.

The Nurse Manager maintains 24-hour accountability for clinical, operational, financial, and personnel management while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, patient advocacy, and evidence-based practice. The successful candidate will lead interdisciplinary teams to achieve exceptional patient outcomes, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for professional nursing practice and patient care delivery.
  • Ensure high-quality, patient-centered care through evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Promote patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.

Operations Management

  • Maintain 24/7 accountability for assigned unit operations.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage staffing plans, scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives utilizing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles.
  • Analyze performance metrics and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Talent Development & Team Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, develop, coach, and retain high-performing nursing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
  • Promote employee engagement, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
  • Mentor emerging nurse leaders and support succession planning.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage departmental budgets and staffing resources effectively.
  • Monitor productivity, operational efficiency, and cost-management initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance while maintaining quality care.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) required.

Licensure & Certification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
  • National nursing specialty certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience.
  • Previous nursing leadership or management experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, nursing care models, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies and patient safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, staffing, and operational performance.
  • Ability to lead change, resolve complex problems, and drive organizational results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive leadership experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and large clinical units.
  • Proven success implementing quality, patient experience, and workforce initiatives.
