About Richmond State Hospital:
Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed, dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Nestled in northwestern Richmond, our beautiful campus provides a quiet and peaceful environment. We provide psychiatric and co-occurring treatment to all adults regardless of race, religion, sex, gender identification, age, handicap, national origin, and ability to pay for services. Unit-based programming is augmented with campus-wide specialty groups. RSH has been a state leader in evidenced-based medication prescribing to both reduce the risks associated with polypharmacy and optimize clinical outcomes. The hospital clinical and medical leadership collaborate with the unit treatment teams to provide the most contemporary and comprehensive care possible.
Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $36.66 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.
A Day in the Life:
Program Administration Support
- Prioritize and organize the daily care of individuals to ensure consistent and effective service delivery.
- Make care assignments and assist in creating treatment plans in collaboration with other clinical staff to meet individual needs.
- Provide orientation and support to staff and to the unit to maintain continuity and quality of care.
- Direct support staff to coordinate workflow and communicate problems to the Charge Nurse Supervisor to ensure smooth operations.
- Complete required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms, and other records to maintain accurate and timely reporting.
Program Management Support
- Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of individuals physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge to inform care decisions.
- Administer medications and treatments according to state-operated health care facility policies and procedures to support recovery and wellness.
- Develop and implement nursing care plans for diagnosis or treatment plan changes to adapt to evolving needs.
- Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinical observation notes for support staff to ensure compliance and quality.
- Respond and intervene in emergency situations and with agitated individuals to maintain safety and therapeutic environment.
- Educate individuals and family members regarding medication, procedures, and treatment goals and objectives to promote understanding and engagement.
- Ensure proper safety and infection control standards are met for the unit to protect staff and individuals.

What Youll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret nursing and facility policies and procedures.
- Ability to serve as a patient advocate.
- Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn programs used in maintaining electronic medical records.
- Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records.
- Ability to understand and apply medical and facility terminology.
- Effective interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to educate individuals and families regarding medication, procedures, and treatment goals.
- Additional knowledge and/or ability may be required based on the population the facility serves (e.g., children, adolescents, geriatrics).
- Must possess an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college.
- Must have a license to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
- Must hold and maintain CPR certification.
- Must stay current with behavioral intervention training.

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
