Neuro ALS RN for Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute

Position Purpose: The Outpatient Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care and care coordination for patients receiving neurological services in the outpatient setting. Working collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team, the RN assesses patient needs, manages clinical communications, coordinates treatment plans, and promotes positive patient outcomes through education, advocacy, and evidence-based practice."

What you will do:

  • Provide professional nursing care to adult neurology patients in an outpatient clinic setting.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining medical histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and neurological screenings.

  • Triage incoming patient phone calls and electronic messages, assessing symptoms and determining the appropriate level of care.

  • Coordinate care between providers, patients, caregivers, specialists, hospitals, and ancillary services.

  • Educate patients and families regarding neurological conditions, medications, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care.

  • Administer medications, injections (if applicable), and other treatments within scope of practice.

  • Assist providers with in-office procedures and ensure appropriate documentation.

  • Review laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic results and communicate findings or provider recommendations to patients.

  • Prepare, pend, and process medication refills in accordance with provider protocols.

  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and escalate urgent concerns to the provider promptly.

  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

  • Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and prior authorizations as needed.

  • Maintain compliance with clinical quality measures, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects.

  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, patient care coordinators, and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required, BSN preferred.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum one to three years clinical nursing experience in Neuroscience or related field

Licensure/Certification:

  • FL RN license

  • BLS from AHA
