Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel)

Pay: $1,996.92/week
Completion Bonus: $2,470 per contract (up to $7,410 after three contracts)
Position Overview
ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Cookeville, Tennessee. This Med Surg unit also includes inpatient oncology patients, requiring strong assessment skills and experience caring for adults and geriatric populations with a wide range of acute medical needs.
The RN will work with ratios of 1:5-6, with support from an interdisciplinary team. First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment. Floating within scope may be required based on facility needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with diverse medical conditions, including med-surg, comfort care, and inpatient oncology.
- Manage patient ratios of 1:5-6 during day shift and 1:6 during nights, ensuring safe monitoring, assessment, and timely interventions.
- Administer medications, manage IV lines, perform wound care, and assist with ADLs and mobility.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social workers, and rapid response.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, escalate concerns, and implement appropriate interventions.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans.
- Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and evaluations in Paragon EMR.
- Float within scope to support other units as needed while maintaining safe ratios.
- Attend required orientation (36 hours) and comply with facility protocols and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Active Tennessee or compact RN license (required; pending licenses not accepted).
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg experience (required).
- BLS certification (required).
- Experience with inpatient oncology patients preferred.
- Must be able to float within scope as needed.
- Every other weekend required.
- No locals accepted (must live >50 miles away).
- RTO approved case-by-case; cannot exceed guaranteed-hours policy.
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off up to 12 hours per 2-week period.
- Paragon charting experience preferred.
- Must complete all compliance requirements.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
