Duration: 13 Weeks (or per contract)

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced CVOR Registered Nurse with a strong cardiac and thoracic surgery background. This is a high-acuity, fast-paced environment that is not recommended for first-time travelers.

The surgical team always includes:

  • 1 Circulator RN
  • 1 Medication RN

Travelers will function in the Circulator RN role only.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of CVOR RN experience
  • Strong cardiac and thoracic surgery experience required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance

  • Valve Replacements
  • Valvuloplasty
  • Aortic Procedures
  • Heart Transplants
  • Thoracic Robotic Cases
    • Lobectomy
    • Hernia Repair
  • Generator Exchanges
  • Lead Extractions
  • Fem-Pop Bypass Procedures
  • Supporting Interventional Cases

Average volume:

  • Approximately 10 cases per day

Patient ratio:

  • 1:1

Required Certification

  • BLS (AHA)

Charting & Equipment

  • EPIC (Required)
  • Alaris
  • Pyxis
  • DaVinci XI Robotic System

Support Available

  • Department Supervisor & Manager
  • Team Lead (without patient assignment)
  • Anesthesia Coverage Available 24/7
  • Surgical Assistant Lead
  • House Supervisor Available 24/7
  • Weekend support shared between Main OR and CVOR teams

Orientation

  • 2-week orientation program

Scheduling Information

Regular Start Times

  • RN: 5:00 AM – 6:30 AM

Shift

  • 8-Hour Day Shift
  • Monday–Friday
  • 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Call Requirements

  • Rotating call assignments based on department staffing
  • Approximately 2–3 overnight call shifts per month
  • Weekend call approximately 1 weekend per month
  • Weekend call hours: Saturday/Sunday 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM
  • End-of-shift call up to once per week
  • 30-minute response time required
  • No sleep room available

Holiday Requirements

  • On-call only, as needed

Floating

  • No floating required
  • Assignment limited to:
    • CVOR
    • Thoracic Services
    • Supporting Interventional Cases on Standby

Time-Off Policy

  • Up to 7 days may be approved
  • Additional requests require facility approval

Facility Policies

Fatigue Policy

All staff, including travelers:

  • Cannot work more than 60 hours per week
  • Cannot work more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts

Pain Medication Documentation

RN must:

  • Document pain level before medication administration
  • Reassess and document pain level after medication administration (within 1 hour for oral medications)
  • Ensure medication administered matches the ordered pain scale parameters
  • Obtain a new order if the patient's reported pain level falls outside the ordered medication range

Example:

  • If a patient reports pain of 8/10, Tylenol ordered for mild pain (1–3) cannot be administered without a provider order adjustment.
