RN - CVICU

About Facility:
o 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157
o 885 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
Unit Information:
o Beds: 22 Bed ICU
Census: 20 patients/day
o Minimum Years of Experience required: 1 year minimum with CVICU experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes, with CVICU Experience
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Surgical and Medical Cardiac Critical Care unit, that cares for patients suffering cardiovascular support. Common seen diagnosis Post operations for CABG, valve replacement/ repair, Impella, IABP management, thoracic aortic aneurysms etc.
Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:2
o CNA: 1:20
Required Licensure & Certifications:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
o CCRN (preferred)
Skills required:
o EPIC experience (preferred); Post cardiac assessment, know how to care for circulatory support (IABP, IMPELLA, LVAD, ECMO), titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medication, interpretation of cardiac waveforms, and hemodynamic monitoring.
Support within the Department:
o CNA: ADLs, Blood Sugar, vital signs and transport
o Receptionist: Unit management of phone calls, and replacement. Yes, 24 Hours
o Charge nurse: Yes, often in assignment
o Phlebotomy: Nurse Draw
o RT 24/7: Yes, allocated in CVICU
o Intensivist 24/7
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic experience preferred
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Phillips
o Unit specific equipment: CRRT (nxstage)
Floating: If yes, where?
o Yes: within other critical care departments
PCU 1:3
MS 1:4
Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO: One Week
o 2- 3 days departmental
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: Nurses every other weekend
o On call? None
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: NM approval
o Shift times: 0630-1900/1830-0700
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
