Description:

As part of the leadership team, the House Supervisor is a registered nurse that provides the identifiable managerial presence for all departments.

Provide oversight of the entire facility during off shift hours in the absence of managers, directors and executive leaders.  

Responsible for proper allocation and utilization of hospital resources to promote continuity of care to our patients and support the medical staff, colleagues and visitors.

Has the authority to make the decisions associated with immediate needs and requirements for staffing.

Serves as the hospital's administrative representative in crisis prevention and resolution with all customers.

Accountable for compliance with the Nursing Code of Ethics and applicable regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent bachelors degree.

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience

  • Four years as staff nurse with progressively more responsible work experience with demonstrated clinical leadership skills.

  • Management experience preferred.

Special Skill / Aptitudes

  • Demonstrates courteous and professional communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively coordinate care and promote a customer orientation with the health care team across the continuum.

  • Excellent customer service skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Assures that the 24-hour staffing plans submitted by clinical leaders are implemented and/or adjusted based on changes in patient census and acuity as well as staffing changes (call ins, etc.).

  • Duties include but are not limited to leadership, staff development, patient flow, colleague satisfaction, and patient satisfaction.

  • Coordinates hospital operations, facilitates smooth patient flow, manages personnel, and acts as hospital administrative representative during his/her assigned shift.

  • This includes activating downtime procedures, the emergency incident command center, and conducting Fit for Duty assessments when required.

  • Collaborates with the Logistics Center  and unit leadership to facilitate the flow of patients.

  • Ensures thorough and timely review and communication of events/decisions made that altered staffing plans or unit operations.

  • Mentors and coaches staff in the development of professional nurse behaviors and management of patient care.

  • Investigates documents and communicates occurrences that affect hospital operations and, where appropriate, takes immediate action to assure compliance with hospital policies and procedures/guidelines.

  • This includes acting: leading nightshift and weekend operational huddles, acting as champion for certain clinical initiatives (ex: handwashing) and problem solving and oversight of non-clinical areas as required.

  • Provides feedback regarding staff performance and operational issues related to quality patient care.

  • Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values.

  • Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.

  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management and payroll, emergency management, HR coordination and other duties as assigned.

  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.
