RN Clinical Director – Hospice

Location: Albuquerque, NM (greater metro service area)

Position Overview

Our client is a mission-driven hospice organization serving patients in the greater Albuquerque, New Mexico area and seeking an experienced RN Clinical Director to lead branch-level clinical operations and support high-quality, patient-centered end-of-life care. This role oversees the interdisciplinary team, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives clinical quality outcomes while mentoring nurses and other clinical staff in a fast-paced hospice environment.

About the Role

  • Lead day-to-day hospice clinical operations for the Albuquerque branch, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compliant patient care across the assigned service area.
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership to the interdisciplinary team (RNs, LPNs, social workers, chaplains, aides, and other team members) with an emphasis on collaboration and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized plans of care, aligning practice with organizational policies, hospice standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support clinical staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, and performance evaluation for nursing and other clinical team members.
  • Coordinate and oversee all direct and indirect patient services provided by the hospice clinical team, including admissions, routine home care, respite, continuous care, and general inpatient care as applicable.
  • Lead or participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings, ensuring cohesive care planning, timely documentation, and effective communication with physicians and other providers.
  • Monitor quality metrics, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction; support ongoing quality and performance-improvement efforts and implement corrective action plans as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and accreditation standards for hospice care, including documentation, infection control, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for field staff, assisting with complex cases, symptom management, and family/caregiver support when escalation is needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or health care preferred.
  • Registered Nurse with a current state license to practice as a professional nurse in New Mexico (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a nurse, including:
    • At least 1 year of full-time experience providing direct patient care in a hospice, home health, or oncology setting, and
    • 1 year of supervisory experience in hospice or home health care preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of terminal care, including crisis intervention, pain and symptom control, clinical bedside nursing, and family counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute a supportive, sensitive approach to staff and patient/family needs.
  • Computer proficiency, including accurate typing skills and experience with EMR and common software applications.
  • Current CPR certification (if required by state).
  • Current driver's license, vehicle insurance, and reliable access to dependable transportation.

Schedule and Expectations

  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours, with flexibility to support occasional after-hours needs and agency requirements.
  • Participation in on-call rotation or leadership support for after-hours staff as needed, per agency policy.
