Job Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW This role serves in an adjunct faculty role for the AHN Schools of Nursing. This nurse has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for clinical instruction of students.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Explores creative and innovative teaching and learning strategies on the clinical unit providing quality instruction to groups of students and individuals as needed, providing for daily goals and a plan of care for patients.
  • Provides documentation of the students progress and sets goals and timelines with didactic faculty leaders for the accomplishments of the course objectives.
  • Supports continuous learning and commitment to lifelong learning in the clinical area by sharing research materials from professional organizations, presenting on the unit, and teaching students.
  • Considers maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition complexity of the intervention, and predictability of the outcome.
  • Promotes patient safety initiatives, e.g., National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participates in department-specific quality initiatives, e.g., EBP, population-specific.
  • Assures appropriate order sets are used.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services.
  • Willingly accepts mistakes of self and others, creating a culture in which risk-taking is not only safe but expected.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, management, patients, families, and all other members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient.
  • Serves as a role model of professional nursing practice for students and peer nursing staff.
  • Provides leadership in a professional practice setting. This role is a team player who contributes to building the team by helping others succeed through role modeling and mentoring.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues.
  • Provides peers with both verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance.
  • Provides curriculum feedback to the SON.
  • Practices solid communication skills and can articulate and translate the patients care & condition to other care providers.
  • Utilizes educational/teaching instances to demonstrate learning enhancements and shares the outcomes with peer practicing nurses, other faculty, and schools of nursing where applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Masters degree in nursing OR obtain within 5 years of hire.
  • 2 years of experience in clinical area of direct responsibility may be required depending on specialty.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • CPR - American Heart Association
  • Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Substitutions None

Preferred

  • 2 years of teaching experience in a school of nursing
