Summary
The Risk Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing patient safety and improving the quality of care within the organization while reducing organizational risk. This individual is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Investigate and assist with patient grievances, potential serious adverse events, reported professional liability incidents and general liability incidents as needed.
Oversight of SafetyHub-Patient Safety module, event reporting system for tracking and trending potential areas of organizational risks and patient safety concerns.
Work with area leaders, quality/patient safety and others on investigations of serious adverse events and/or significant near misses with providing guidance on apparent cause/root cause analysis ensuring use of appropriate corrective actions.
Review medical records for care and treatment concerns that may pose liability issues with investigations.
Assist with Risk Assessments, and risk-management education on medical/legal topics as directed.
Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
Identify and evaluate risks as a means to reduce injury to patients, staff members, and visitors within the organization.
Work proactively and reactively to either prevent incident or to minimize the damages following an event as identified.
Maintain and utilize the event reporting system to track and trend potential areas of risk and to identify patient safety concerns.

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree of science, healthcare related, finance, business, economics.
Experience:
Three (3) years experience in healthcare, risk/liability management, finance, insurance, or healthcare.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified Professional in Healthcare Management within two (2) years of hire.
