The successful candidate will possess a strong technical and data analytics background. The candidate must be adept at working independently as well as have strong collaborative capabilities to assist Commercial Operations, Supply, Finance, Accounting, and Customer Operations teams to adequately mitigate risk and preserve expected margins. This position will report to the Product Control Manager within the Power Product Control group and will be in our Houston, TX office.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze, value, and provide risk analysis around complex transactions and portfolio positions, including power generation, load contracts, complex derivatives, hedging strategies, and trading assetsDevelop and monitor position and P&L reports for NRG's energy portfolioMark and/or validate end-of-day curves in the risk systemLeverage problem solving and analytical skills along with new technologies to enhance and automate various risk processesCollaborate effectively within the Risk team and with other departments on issues/projectsSupport requests from NRG's internal and external auditorsWork closely with IT on risk system improvements and testing new enhancementsWorking ConditionsHybrid work schedule, 4 days on site, 1 day remote (Friday)Open office environmentSome overtime required as special projects ariseMinimal travel required, not likely to exceed 10%Physical RequirementsMajority of work performed on a personal computer in a seated positionMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline like Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or SciencesAdditional Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExtensive experience with MS ExcelAttention to detail, diligent, and highly organizedProven ability to manipulate and analyze large datasetsKnowledge of energy markets a plus; electricity, natural gas, renewables and/or oil marketsUnderstanding of common risk metrics and control methodologies within a commodity trading environment also a plusNRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
