    Description

    POSITION PURPOSE:

    Responsible for the daily maintenance of the ice rink.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Open and close (lock) building as schedule requires
    • Make Ice- operate Olympia ice surfacer
    • Sharpen skates
    • Maintain control of locker room keys issued to customers- ensuring return.
    • Check building for misuse and cleanliness, report any safety issues or breakdowns, this may include checking locker rooms between usage for damage. Report findings as necessary
    • Monitor building mechanicals and report issues as necessary
    • Monitor Ice time for ice making- help keep customers on schedule
    • Report any Report any security breaches (e.g., people attempting to use ice during unscheduled times), misuse of ice, and/or any safety issues to supervisor and Director of Operations. Interact with customers and schedulers as needed for schedule issues and changes
    • Light maintenance on dasher boards, glass and netting
    • Monitor ice quality and make adjustments as necessary to improve the quality
    • Edge ice as necessary with power edger and hand scraper
    • Drill ice for thickness check and adjust ice making as necessary
    • Maintenance on Olympia ice surfacer- change blade, grease, basic maintenance
    • Install line kits on floor ice for game field marking
    • Open rink season with floor flooding for ice buildup, using hose and water cans. Multiple layers/ coats are needed to get the correct thickness. Prepare the floor as necessary to receive water for ice making. This includes seam backer rod installation and foaming as needed to stop leaks
    • Remove ice at the end of season. Dry and store line kit, prepare machinery for storage and clean floor, prepare seasonal storage of items and equipment as necessary

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM KSA'S (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT IN POSITION

    • Strong customer service orientation with both internal and external contacts
    • Ability to work and communicate effectively with various levels of school personnel
    • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
    • Ability to understand and follow all applicable safety guidelines and protocols
    • Knowledge and competent skills and experience in grounds keeping maintenance
    • Good oral and written communication skills, ability to follow oral and written instructions
    • Basic computer skills
    • Able to fulfill scheduled "on call" responsibilities

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    Prior experience:

    • 1- year minimum rink and/or grounds experience.
    • Previous experience using grounds equipment, tractors, large mowing equipment, power tools, hand tools etc.

    Licenses & Certifications:

    • Valid driver's license
    • State of CT Applicators license required or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
