The RF/mmW Hardware Design Engineer will design, develop, and optimize radio frequency hardware circuits and systems for wireless communications devices operating at mmW frequencies.DescriptionThe engineer will be responsible for design and integration of cellular radio platforms, and will be involved from initial concept study to the mass production. This engineer will implement creative RF designs to realize our wireless product requirements.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with multi-functional teams to develop and integrate cellular radio platforms into Apple's productsContribute to RF/mmW module, board-level, and flex designs up through mmW operating frequenciesAuthor schematics and drive layout optimizations for RF/mmW modules with extensive EM simulationsPerform RF system lineup analyses to ensure our system designs meet industry and internal standardsCreate and maintain RF/electrical specifications for RF components and drive component developmentArchitect component-level and system-level characterization setups and drive characterization and debug activities in our lab and at our production partner labsTravel internationally to support prototype hardware builds. Up to 10% travel may be requiredMinimum QualificationsBSEE and 10+ years of relevant industry experienceStrong knowledge of RF systems principles, RF/mmW hardware design, digital communications, and phased array antenna fundamentalsExperience with schematic, layout, and EM simulation flows with tools such as Capture, Allegro, HFSS, ADSExperience in defining RF/mmW conducted and radiated characterization and production test plansScripting experience in Python for test automation and post-processingExcellent written and verbal communicationPreferred QualificationsMSEE or Ph.D preferredExpertise in Tx/Rx specification flow down related to linearity and noiseExpertise in IC/package co-design and EM/SIPI simulation flowsExpertise in module packaging technologies, qualification, and ATEFamiliarity with embedded systems and peripheral interfacesProficiency in wireless communications standards and wireless technologyHands on experience with 5GNR FR2 product developmentHands on experience with probe stations for conducted characterization and anechoic chambers for OTA characterization, especially at mmW frequenciesPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
