The Ohio Department of Taxation is seeking to fill one (1) Revenue Economist position in the Tax Analysis Division.

What Youll do as a Revenue Economist

A Revenue Economist analyzes proposed legislation (e.g., new tax types, alterations to existing tax types, elimination or deletions of tax types) to determine revenue impacts for policy makers including the Governor and the General Assembly. Additionally, the Revenue Economist performs research regarding existing tax policies and assists in forecasting future state tax revenues.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a financial economist planning and performing a wide range of government economic research and analysis.

The incumbent duties to this position are as follows:

  • Evaluates the fiscal impact of current and proposed legislation on state tax receipts.
  • Develops, maintains and applies econometric models to forecast future state tax revenue.
  • Conducts research on tax policy issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of graduate core program in economics, statistics, business administration or public administration.
  • 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in use of statistical software (e.g., SAS, query languages & data base analysis techniques).
  • 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in tax law & government structure & process (e.g., laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders & agency rules pertaining to taxation).
  • 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in academic analytical research.
  • -Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Section 2961 of the Ohio Revised Code prohibits individuals convicted of a felony, including but not limited to fraud, deceit or theft, from holding a position that has substantial management or control over the property of a state agency. Additionally, section 5703.081 of the Ohio Revised Code requires the Ohio Department of Taxation employees to promptly file and pay tax returns.
