SM Tire, founded in 1946, has delivered tire and automotive services to the CA Central Coast region since.  Our multi-location business has always focused on building strong customer relationships and providing the highest quality of workmanship on each and every vehicle we service.  In addition, we operate a dedicated Bandag Retread plant in Santa Maria, CA, providing factory-quality tire retreading, together with 24/7 mobile commercial road services. 

Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Controller, the Retread Production Manager will be responsible for the oversight of the operations of the retread facility, to ensure that used tires are processed and restored to meet safety and quality standards.  This person will perform quality control, oversee work-flow, equipment maintenance, casing control, finished product shipments, utilization of the Basys software, while continually ensuring a clean and safe working facility/environment and assisting with shop tours.  This is a hands-on position of which the majority of time, will be working in the shop providing operational oversight of the retread plant.  We will provide training for the role and the retreading process.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Oversee the tire retreading process, ensuring both safety and quality standards are consistently met or exceeded;

Open and close retread facility daily;

Ensure the production unit meets established goals for quality and delivery;

Supervise retread plant personnel in a positive and productive manner, while addressing any issues promptly and fairly;

Assist in recruiting personnel, provide training and retraining, act as a mentor and assist in evaluating personnel, while fostering an efficient and effective work environment;

Maintain and update technical information used in the shop;

Troubleshoot and maintain equipment in the shop and throughout the plant;

Practice safe work habits at all times and abide by industry, company, state and federal guidelines;

Other duties as assigned by Executive Management.

Qualifications: 

High School Diploma (or equivalent) or 2 years of related experience and/ or Bandag Training;

At least 3 years of staff management and production scheduling experience;

Possess a high level of technical expertise, with the ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement, while maintaining maximum levels of safety;

Possess computer skills and ability to learn new software applications;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Demonstrated leadership, time management, attention to detail, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, follow-through and customer service skills;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Ability to lift 50 pounds in weight;

Possess a valid CA driver’s license, with a clean and insurance driving record;

Ability to pass a drug test and pre-employment physical required.

Compensation:

$75k – 85k base salary range DOE, for this full-time, exempt position. 

Benefits:

6 paid public holidays annually;

Paid vacation which begins accruing after 6 months of employment;

40 hours of standard CA annual paid sick time, which begins accruing on start date;

Working Hours for retread facility:

6:00AM – 2:00PM, Monday – Friday, with occasional Saturdays
