We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to lead our Tarzana retail location, drive sales performance, develop team members, and ensure compliance with California cannabis regulations.

Position Summary

The Retail Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of store operations, including sales performance, inventory management, staffing, customer satisfaction, compliance, and team development. This role is critical in ensuring the store operates efficiently, meets revenue goals, and provides an exceptional experience for every customer.

The successful candidate may also have opportunities to cross-train in other operational functions based on business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train retail staff.
  • Create and maintain staffing schedules to support business needs, peak traffic periods, and special events.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and motivate employees to achieve individual and team performance goals.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Address employee performance concerns and administer corrective action when necessary.

Retail Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day retail operations to ensure smooth and efficient store performance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
  • Ensure proper product merchandising and display rotation to maximize customer engagement and sales.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and build long-term customer relationships.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with all company policies and California cannabis regulations.

Sales & Business Performance

  • Drive store sales and profitability through effective leadership and customer engagement strategies.
  • Develop and implement promotional initiatives, sales campaigns, and marketing programs.
  • Review sales reports, operational metrics, and customer trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Meet or exceed store-level and individual sales performance goals.
  • Utilize company software and reporting tools to analyze sales performance and customer purchasing trends.

Inventory & Compliance

  • Manage inventory levels, purchasing, receiving, and product replenishment.
  • Conduct regular spot checks and inventory audits to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Verify daily sales reports and cash handling procedures.
  • Ensure deposits, reconciliations, and reporting are completed according to company standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations and company operating procedures.

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with ownership and retail leadership on staffing strategies, promotional initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Develop and manage store budgets and inventory plans.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and training programs that support operational excellence.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Handle complex operational issues and maintain business continuity during unexpected challenges.
  • Allocate resources and adjust staffing to support store performance goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support company objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum two (2) years of retail leadership or management experience.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and retail software systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry.
  • Knowledge of California cannabis regulations and retail compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with inventory management, POS systems, and cash handling procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements throughout the workday.
