Overview
The department of Campus Dining handles all things dining on campus. From residential meal plans to event catering, we provide nutritional food for students, faculty, staff and guests. We manage over a dozen eating establishments at NIU including residence hall dining, restaurants and coffee shops at the student center, and the Cafe in Barsema Hall. We employ the students and professionals who work in our restaurants and cafes.
Position Summary
The Retail Dining Supervisor position is a 9-month position (Aug 16-May 15); actual start and end date may vary by academic year.
Employees at this level supervise and participate in the work of a group of employees engaged in a retail dining operation. They work under general supervision of the Food Service Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Promotes quality customer service with a focus on speed, courtesy, and accuracy of service.
- Continually interacts with customers in dining area to evaluate satisfaction levels.
Food Safety
- Oversees and ensures food preparation and sanitary standards are maintained in food preparation and in the food prep, services areas, and Front of House areas.
- Assists with food preparation and serving of food and beverages as staffing and business dictates.
Training
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates employees on assigned shift.
Administrative
- Establishes and maintains simple account records, manages cash handling processes, and completes daily cash deposits.
- Assists with operating POS register as staffing and business dictates.
Cleaning
- Assist with the front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house cleaning including bussing tables and the general cleaning of the seating area, washing pots and pans, sweeping, mopping, and wiping down equipment and food contact surfaces.
Inventory
- Requisitions supplies from vendors and storerooms.
- Assists in the inventory process of venue.
Planning
- Assists in planning, development, pricing, and rollout of new franchise directives (i.e. merchandising, menu items, etc.).
Other Related Duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in fast-food procedures (such as gained as a Food Court/Snack Bar Attendant or closely related experience).
