What Does A Retail Design Operations Field Lead Do?
Lead the Design Business in the Field: Travel to stores on a biweekly to monthly cadence to provide in person leadership, observe trends, and support designers and Assistant Store Managers through live coaching and floor partnership.
Coach and Develop Store Leadership: Act as a mentor to Assistant Store Managers, strengthening their ability to lead design teams, manage performance, and drive designer accountability to key metrics.
Own New Store Design Launches: Lead training and onboarding for new store openings to ensure design services launch smoothly and consistently from day one.
Serve as the Bridge to Home Office: Partner closely with corporate teams, share field insights, identify process gaps, and help shape strategies that capture more design business across locations.
Drive Designer Performance: Review pipelines, remove roadblocks, and partner with store leadership to ensure designers are effectively managing projects and hitting KPIs.
Support Complex Customer Projects: Connect store teams and Home Office partners to ensure large, high consideration design projects deliver an exceptional customer experience from start to finish.
Understand the Regional Customer: Develop a deep understanding of the customer base in your region and translate those insights into actionable strategies with cross functional partners.
Lead Through Change: Support stores through evolving promotions, product changes, and operational shifts while maintaining focus, energy, and clarity for teams.
You’ll Thrive in this Role if You Have:
Retail Design Leadership Experience: 3+ years leading sales or design teams in a retail environment with accountability to performance metrics and customer outcomes.
Design Knowledge and Application: Strong understanding of spatial planning, materials, style trends, and how design decisions translate into real customer spaces.
Coaching and Performance Development: Proven ability to coach Assistant Store Managers and designers, remove roadblocks, and elevate individual and team performance.
Cross-Functional Partnership Skills: Exceptional ability to connect store teams with Home Office partners to solve problems and improve processes.
Operational and Technical Fluency: Comfort using CRM systems, POS technology, and design tools such as AutoCAD or SketchUp to support project execution.
Adaptability in a Changing Environment: Ability to lead with clarity and focus through evolving promotions, products, and operational priorities.
Communication and Relationship Building: Strong communication skills that build trust across leaders, designers, and corporate stakeholders.
Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to travel frequently and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Travel and Field Partnership: Ability to travel regularly, approximately 25% to 50% of the time, to support operational excellence and strengthen designer performance across our retail locations.

Frequent standing, walking, and travel between store locations
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently
Close vision, color vision, and depth perception for reviewing design plans and materials
