Overview:

The Restaurant Prep Cook is responsible for preparing fresh ingredients that support the daily operation of a full-service restaurant. This position performs a variety of food preparation tasks while ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to standardized recipes. The Restaurant Prep Cook plays an important role in setting the culinary team up for success by ensuring all ingredients are prepared and organized for à la carte service.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $22.00 - $26.00.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, slicing, dicing, peeling, mixing, and portioning according to recipes and production sheets.
  • Prepare sauces, dressings, soups, sandwiches, salads, grain bowls, proteins, and other café menu components.
  • Assemble grab-and-go items and package products according to presentation standards.
  • Label, date, and properly store all prepared food using FIFO procedures.
  • Maintain adequate prep levels to support daily café operations.
  • Assist with opening, stocking, and organizing café kitchen stations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate product needs to supervisors.
  • Rotate products to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
  • Support Line Cooks during peak meal periods as needed.
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, prep areas, and utensils throughout each shift.
  • Properly handle and store food products to maintain quality and safety.
  • Work collaboratively with culinary team members to ensure timely food production.
  • Assist with catering and special event preparation as assigned.
  • Support other kitchen stations during high-volume service periods.
Qualifications:
  • Previous food preparation or kitchen experience preferred.
  • Experience in cafés, food halls, quick-service, or fast-casual restaurants is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain within the designated timeframe.
  • Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize production.
  • Commitment to food safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Must be comfortable working in hot and refrigerated kitchen environments.
