Resource Counselor (Part-Time, 20 Hours/Week)

As a Resource Counselor, you'll serve as the first point of contact for individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals seeking guidance through the JABA Helpline. What You'll Do
As a Resource Counselor, you will:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the JABA Helpline, responding to calls, emails, and other inquiries.
- Conduct person-centered conversations to understand each individual's unique needs, preferences, and goals.
- Provide accurate, unbiased information about JABA services and community resources.
- Complete intake interviews and comprehensive needs assessments.
- Connect individuals with appropriate programs, benefits, and community services.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation using electronic data systems.
- Stay current on community resources, eligibility requirements, and available benefits.
- Collaborate with JABA staff and community partners to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Represent JABA at community meetings, outreach events, and educational activities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who combines strong communication skills with genuine compassion for older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge
- Aging, caregiving, and the physical, emotional, and social aspects of growing older
- Disabilities, chronic illness, and their impact on individuals and families
- Interviewing and assessment techniques
- Community resources, public benefits, and service eligibility
Skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication
- Active listening and interviewing
- Critical thinking and problem-solving
- Resource coordination and advocacy
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and database systems
Abilities
- Build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Conduct sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy
- Assess needs and coordinate appropriate referrals
- Prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy
- Work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in human services, aging services, healthcare, case management, social services, or a related field
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation for occasional local travel
Required Certification
- Obtain Inform USA (Association for Community Navigators) Certification within one year of hire
Work Schedule
- Part-time (20 hours per week)
- Primarily office-based
- Occasional local travel for outreach and community meetings
- Regular use of computers and electronic documentation systems
- Direct support of the JABA Helpline is a primary responsibility
